In the days to come, I will do my best to shoulder this important responsibility. Over the years, Mr. Lee has made many contributions to Singapore. After I entered politics, he gave me careful guidance as my mentor. As a colleague in my cabinet, he also constantly supported and encouraged me. I am grateful that he agreed to remain in the Cabinet and that he will provide me and my team with valuable input and perspective. Singapore's achievements today are the result of the hard work of the successive leadership groups and our people. Most of the first-generation leadership team and I were born after the country's independence, and we are very grateful for the selfless dedication and contribution of our ancestors.
