@geckoemmy: Feather damage isn’t usually a simple issue, and it doesn’t always indicate neglect or abuse. An avian vet can help diagnose possible causes of feather damage and a plan to correct the issues if possible. Sometimes it takes multiple visits to determine the best course of action. Don’t hesitate to contact a vet if your pet bird is showing any signs of discomfort or distress. #petbirds #parrotsoftiktok #featherplucking
does the bar apply to small birds like the budgie too?

My birds had an overgrowth of yeast on their skin that caused them to chew their feathers. My avian vet said that it is a very common issue in the Michigan and Ohio areas due to the environment.

Could a parrot potentially remove a blood feather and bleed out? Should I be concerned that this could happen?

Do the plucked feathers grow back? Or do these babies need a sweater?

Eclectus, more commonly males but also females, will go through something called a mojo moult where they will lose chunks of feathers across their head and neck. Very unsightly, but common.

Is banding and breakage on the feathers of other kinds of birds (corvids or finches for example) also caused by stress or periods of poor nutrition? Thanks for sharing your knowledge! 🪶

My gcc chews his feathers (not plucks). It started as nutritional issues when I first got him but now it’s all behavioral. He might just be a bit scrappy looking for all his life at this point
