The president said border officials "desperately need more resources" that only Congress can provide, calling on Republicans to "show a little spine" and pass the bill, which includes funding for more agents between ports of entry and more immigration judges to address the severe backlog in cases. "Folks, it's time to act. It's long past time to act," he said. President Trump on Friday said he will direct Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team to next look into the Education Department and Pentagon. “He will be looking at education pretty quickly and he will be looking at military too,” the president said in a press conference alongside Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Mr. Musk effectively shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), removing its sign from its headquarters and placing virtually all its employees on leave. “I’m very proud of the job that this group of young people, generally young people, but very smart people, they’re doing,” the president said. “They’re doing it at my insistence.
