still remember my first time was 8 years old when it happened now I'm 21 and since then I've prayed to never treat my significant other the way my dad used to treat my mom

I'm sorry, friend. I sometimes cope by imagining walking in on myself as a kid and hugging myself and just reassuring myself its gonna be okay and its not my fault.

I went through this as a kid and it repeated in my relationships until I ended it so my kids didn’t have to see it and this is triggering.

All grown up and it still terrifies me. Have a partner and a baby girl, can't imagine ever treating them like that.

The only time I didn't have that happen was when I was at a friend's house. The other time was when I was could legally live on my own.
I promised myself I wouldn't do that to anybody. Ever.

while I miss my dad like crazy, I don't miss the fights him and mum would get into over the most things. It never got physical but man it was hard to listen to

30 years on and I too remember hearing family act like this. I was fortunate to grow up in house were this never happened but plenty of cousins never got to escape it
