Re: joy, I’ve always heard the film Mommy Dearest held up as one of the purest examples of camp, but can we really call it joyful? It was at least trying to be serious and disturbing.

Bad but I inexplicably love it, so bad it's good, and camp are three distinct categories. They can sometimes overlap, but they are not interchangeable terms.

there's a bit of a venn diagram between bad and campy and it all comes down to intent. the non overlap parts of the diagram are intentional camp and a serious intent to make a film that follows
