Even if they don’t get the reference, if they respond in a way that shows me they want to learn about it, or at LEAST in a nonjudgmental way, I know we are compatible!

I LOVE it when I make an obscure or niche reference to someone new and they get it. I’m then like “did we just become best friends?”

I think sometimes you can not know the reference someone made and still pass the vibe check by asking questions. Like 'I don't have knowledge on this topic but I'm inviting you to talk about it more anyway because I'm willing to learn about it." And eventually you'll find common ground between your interests and something within or connected to that topic.

aaaaaaaah..... this explains a lot and this is heartbreaking. My last therapist was allistic and her impressions of me were EXACTLY what you described... I was perceived narcissistic.

My thoughts halfway through this video: for me, it's not just a vibe check on shared topics/references. It is also a vibe check on whether they can ask questions in a cooperative way.

Slight tangent but I’ve noticed a difference in how my PDA clients do small talk. I haven’t fully formed a hypothesis but I’m definitely noticing it

it's interesting to learn this. my mom is autistic and ADHD. her father likely was too. being raised by her was hard as someone who isn't autistic or ADHD. she had to justify why she needed what she

I find information exchange so so meaningful, but also scary due to the massive amounts of rejection I’ve faced from NTs

i think it has to be information based for me bc i do not TRUST body language and tone to tell me how safe i am w them. i have to do a test on their behavior and engagement w me on a genuine level

Something interesting I learned about this is that ballistic people can view me as being egocentric for not caring how I'm being overly intimate, when in reality it's not me choosing to disregard

10th grade, 1st day of chemistry, i made a breaking bad reference. a girl asked if it was a bb reference and i was like yeah. she picked up her stuff and sat next to me. bffs for over a decade now 🥲

(dont know if this is autism or neurodivergence) Is it okay to say that i personally just care about the information only? And if when i meet that person again I'll just tell the info back from the first time.

I just made a new friend at work (I think? I hope?) bc I mentioned Chappell Roan & we now burst out singing CR every time we cross paths. No idea if she’s ND but she happily accepted CR Facts 🙏😂

having ADHD makes me feel like I straddle the line between autistic and allistic communication. Allistic communication is easier when I'm already emotionally regulated

I’ve made really strong connections with other autistic people that I didn’t have many common interests with by expressing genuine interest in learning about theirs, does that also fit in this model?
