@sinamedisina: A new fruit I discovered in the jungle: Poloponta, Phyelephas Macrocarpa, or „Yarina“ how the indigenous call it and it’s one of my new special favoritesss 😍🙏🏼✨ Yarina is a species of palm tree native to the Amazon rainforest, particularly found in parts of Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru. It is also commonly known as the ivory palm or tagua palm. One of the most remarkable features of the yarina palm is its large, spherical fruit, which contains multiple seeds covered in a hard, ivory-like shell. These seeds are known as „tagua nuts“ and have been traditionally used by indigenous communities for various purposes. The tagua nuts are particularly valued for their resemblance to ivory and their potential as a sustainable alternative to animal ivory. They are often carved into intricate figurines, beads, buttons and other decorative items.
