@bee.jeweled.coop: 🐓Here’s all you need to know about SAND for your chicken coop! 💚 Where do you get it? ✨Check your local landscape company! It’s cheaper and you can get a lot. ✨Have a smaller space? All-purpose sand at @tractorsupply is a good choice! 💚 What kind to get? ✨ Sand has so many names! Ultimately you’ll want a medium grade construction sand that is not too fine and not sharp. 🚫 NO play sand or beach sand! It can cause respiratory issues and impacted crop. 💚 Here are some names to look for: • concrete sand • granite sand • construction sand • arena sand • torpedo sand • river bank sand 💚 Can you use sand INSIDE the chicken coop too? Yes! Sand is a great low-cost and siftable bedding option for use inside the coop. With that said, sand in the coop makes everything really dusty. There are low/no dust bedding alternatives like hemp bedding, coconut litter and coffee bedding that you can use for your coop if the dust is too much to handle. 💚 Why use sand? ✨ Sand drains really well which helps keep the chickens coop and run dry. ✨ A dry space means less chance for bacteria and mold growth. ✨ Sand is super easy to clean with a scoop, similar to a litter box! ✨ Clean and dry sand will not smell or attract insects. Keep sand clean by removing waste and preventing feed spillage. 👉🏼 Still have questions? So why did you have to redo your coop with sand you said because of feed spillage?? What do you mean by that

I just recently converted to multipurpose sand in my coop and the sand doesn’t seem to want to dry and it smells in there. I’m not quite sure what’s going on.

Can you comment the size of the sand? 😁 is it 0-8mm? Or is it to fine? There are too many options but if you know the size it would make it easier for me☺️thanks

We used medium grade sand and it was the absolute worst. It retained so much moisture, the chicken feces got trampled into the sand making it unscoopable, and we constantly found black mold.
