Sweating more does not mean you’re burning more body fat. Sweat is your body’s cooling system. Train in a hot room, wear extra layers or exercise in humid conditions and you’ll probably sweat more. That doesn’t automatically mean the workout was more effective. You can also train hard in a cool environment and barely sweat. The biggest mistake is stepping on the scale after a sweaty workout, seeing your weight drop and assuming you’ve burned that amount of fat. Most of that immediate change is water. Once you drink and rehydrate, much of that weight comes straight back. So stop judging your training by how soaked your T-shirt is. Look at things that actually tell you whether you’re progressing. Are you getting stronger? Can you do more work? Is your fitness improving? Are you recovering properly? And if fat loss is the goal, is your average bodyweight and waist measurement trending down over time? Sweat can tell you that your body is trying to cool itself. It cannot tell you how much fat you’ve burned.
