DIY Bamboo Water Fountain: Keeping My Cats Hydrated and Happy Am I seeing things? I caught one of my cats standing inside the water bowl just to get a drink! With temperatures dropping unexpectedly - even forming ice in the water bowls - I realized that the chilly autumn nights are making it tough for my feline friends to stay hydrated. The surface of the water was freezing over, and the clever little ones were licking holes through the ice just to get a sip. I removed the ice, but the water was still too cold, and the higher bowls were out of reach for the kittens. Seeing this, I knew I had to come up with a solution. The next morning, I headed to the storage room and found some bamboo pieces I'd purchased earlier. An idea sparked: why not build a simple, DIY bamboo water fountain for the cats? With flowing water, it would be less likely to freeze, and the cats might enjoy drinking from it even more. I set to work near the faucet, conveniently located close to the cats' nest. This way, all the cats could easily access fresh water. Using the bamboo, I crafted a multi-level fountain: the taller bamboo tubes for the bigger cats and lower ones for the kittens who couldn't reach as high. I even placed a bowl beneath the setup so any overflow could be enjoyed by the cats who prefer drinking from a dish. As soon as I placed the bowl, some of the cats thought it was feeding time - they must have been hungry! It warmed my heart to see them so eager. After defrosting the water pipes with some hot water, I connected a small hose from the faucet to the bamboo fountain. When I turned on the faucet, water flowed smoothly down the bamboo channels. The first curious cat approached and began drinking from the upper bamboo tube. Soon, more joined in, including our little princess. It turns out, cats really do prefer flowing water! Later that evening, I checked on the fountain and was delighted to see four cats lined up, patiently waiting their turn. The water dispenser was a hit! Even the kittens came out to explore and enjoy the new setup. One of them was getting groomed by another while drinking - talk about VIP treatment!
