Be careful with DRY, lest you introduce unnecessary coupling. A codebase will survive a bit of duplication but coupling is the killer. This idea only became widely known in the last couple of decades

Is there something wrong with using many If/Elif/Else statements in my code? :( I programmed a backend for a HMI for a production plant this way, it works fine, but I hear this is not good practice..

I hate the supposed seniors that writes a solution just to finish “quickly” and they just waste 2x the time and my time when i notice the mess they did.

Clean code is not a replacement for documentation though.

Careful with “clean code”. It’s VERY subjective and leads to costly unproductive arguing.

As soon as i saw Clean Code in the list ik this persons clueless. Cleanness is subjective. There's no such thing as clean code. And SOLID principles are a lot of the time an overhead

I refuse to follow yagni because it’s always the most fun to write the yagni part. I take pride in my beautiful yagni code.

great how many job roles I've seen asking for someone who understands SOLID principles when their entire codebase is so far removed from any principle or pattern it causes true pain!

In my experience DRY is used to violate the others. Duplicate code is fine. Duplicate logic is the only thing to watch out for

As you progress in your career you have no idea how many conversations you’ll have on DRY. It’s a case by case basis.

The code in the Clean Code book is mostly dreadful. Try reading A Philosophy of Software Design instead.

as someone whos programming for 4 years now, always put quality code over clean code first. unless its some kind of open source, if you have ur own group or studio, you can always make code guides
