One of the biggest fears I hear from women rebuilding after divorce is: “But what if I start a business…and it flops?” I understand that fear because it’s exactly what happened to me. I spent a lot of time preparing to open a boutique preschool with classical music and fine art. I was excited about it. I had done the work. Then I advertised… And almost nothing happened. It would have been easy to decide I wasn’t cut out for business. Instead, I paid attention to what people were actually asking for. One mom told me she wished there was an enrichment pod for homeschoolers a couple of days a week. So I pivoted. That became the business. It didn’t pay all my bills, but it helped me start earning income while I was recovering from surgery and rebuilding after job loss. One of the best things about many service-based businesses is that you’re not locked into one idea forever. You can adjust. You can refine. You can listen to the needs around you. Your first idea doesn’t have to be your forever business.
