@markusbones: #stitch with @Shawna Lander gender disappointment is real but thay doesn't make it less harmful to those of us who have felt its impacts #gender #genderdisappointment #gendercreativeparenting
My son died of an extremely rare medical condition so when I found out we were having another son I was devastated thinking I’d have to relive the trauma I went through with my middle.

What do you mean when you say expecting parents that experience gender disappointment doesn't mean they love their children less? What else can it mean?

I already had 2 boys and 2 girls so it didn't occur to me that I'd even have a preference. It was something that really messed with my head, it wasn't a choice, I was really shocked to experience it.

I came out to my extended family last Christmas and was shocked at the amount of support- it may have been rough with my mum but I got that celebratory reaction with them instead of disappointment

The only reason I'd have any reaction like that is if I'd guessed and been wrong cause I'm competitive and don't like being wrong and I'd be mad at myself for being wrong.

Thank you for verbalizing this. I’ve been struggling to find words for why it bothered me for a few days now.

I’m going to admit I cried. I cried hard at that ultrasound. I wanted a daughter bc my husband came with two sons and we would only be having one child. I wouldn’t change or give up the wonderful…..

I don’t disagree and yet. Humans are storytellers and we write all kinds of stories about our hopes for happiness for our children. My second is visually impaired. My first is autistic. Their stories

I always remember my mum saying that she wanted me to be a boy. I remember how it made me feel not good enough as a girl.

I don't know I get it, to a point but mostly I just think it's in bad taste to be disappointed.

absolutely agree. It's so frustrating to have expectations placed on you based on your gender. I wish my parents could have had an open mind about who I might grow up to be, so that me being myself wouldn't inherently be disappointing.

I had gender disappointment with my second and I have never stopped feeling guilty about it. My child's sex at birth is literally the least interesting thing about them and the fact I thought it would

I have a hard time with people caring so much about the sex of their children because when I talk to people about why they want a girl or boy their reasons are ridiculous.

As a lesbian couple with no experience with men - it was scary to hear “it’s a boy” but we got over it. Potty training might be interesting though 😅
