a simple leak down test before you took the head off would have pinpointed where exactly the problem is

Actually the rings should not rotate ( in theory ). You have sticked piston rings.

Id try pouring marvel mystery oil in there or at this point pull the pan, disconnect the rod caps, rering the pistons and ball hone the cylinders.

carbon buildup under the valves on one side, rust on the other. while you have it apart clean up the valve seats.

Valve standout on all Yanmars is critical. And dont use pirate headgasket as it will affect compression..
