@professor.steph: I love my community! And, there are some things that we do sometimes that make me go 🧐 I’m confident that I am also probably doing someone else’s pet peeves so drop yours in the comments, I’d love to hear if there are things that I can improve upon. #MentalHealth #mentalhealthmatters #MentalHealthAwareness #therapy #therapytiktok #therapytok #wellness #psychology #therapist #therapistsontiktok #mindfulness #attachmentstyle #meditating #dbt #validation #SelfImprovement #selfgrowth #anxiousattachmentstyle #fyp #foryou

I’m really good at intellectualizing during therapy which makes it look like I’m at peace with what’s happening - O hate when therapists don’t call me out on that

Had therapists who take notes & those who say they remember everything. I like it when they take notes b/c they break eye contact more often & I don’t have to feel pressure to hold that eye contact 🫠

The overwhelming prevalence (to the exclusion of other modalities) of CBT. I’m having trouble finding someone who offers other approaches and getting non-CBT covered under my insurance

My pet peeve is the line “they’re doing the best they can with what they have.” Some people are just jerks and aren’t doing the best they can.

Did serious work (uncovered trauma issues) with former therapist, saw a new one who completely disregarded the work I did with her. I left.

Whenever a grounding exercise brings more stress instead of calm I remember the Into the Spiderverse quote “just be in the moment!” “I am in the moment! It’s a terrible moment!”

I’m amazed how few people understand validation and the importance of it in relationship or relational healing. Such a wonderful thing.

Fr the praise one makes me so mad 😭 I’ve had to fire two therapist because of this. I don’t need to be repeatedly told how strong I am

not a pet peeve and I'm not a therapist but positive: my therapist likes to say about my surface emotions "you have a lot of [x feeling] here can you explore that for me?" or something to that>

Mental health is deeply individualistic. Its super hard to explain to therapists that the needs I struggle with, are ones I depend on other humans to meet. Like intimacy. And belonging. It always comes back to me just "getting myself out there more". And thats just not always realistic...
