The 8th of Muharram is dedicated to the profound memory of Hazrat Abbas ibn Ali (A.S), the standard-bearer (Almadar) of Imam Hussain’s (A.S) caravan in Karbala. Known for his unmatched bravery, loyalty, and devotion, Hazrat Abbas (A.S) is epitomized as the ultimate symbol of sacrifice. On this day, the thirst of the young children of Ahl al-Bayt reached a breaking point due to the cruel water blockade by Yazid's army. Driven by his love and duty toward his niece, Bibi Sakina (S.A), Hazrat Abbas took the water-skin (Mashq) and valiantly fought his way to the River Euphrates. Despite reaching the water, his loyalty prevented him from drinking a single drop while his Imam and the children remained thirsty. On his way back, he was brutally ambushed, and both his arms were severed, culminating in his tragic martyrdom.
