@drjaleelmohammed: Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) commonly used to treat major depression. It works by increasing the levels of neurotransmitters noradrenaline and serotonin in the brain, which helps improve mood. Amitriptyline is also prescribed for chronic pain management, migraines, and certain anxiety disorders. Common side effects include dry mouth, drowsiness, dizziness, and weight gain. Due to its potential for more severe side effects, including heart rhythm disturbances, it is typically prescribed when other antidepressants are not effective. Paroxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used to treat major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). By increasing serotonin levels in the brain, paroxetine helps enhance mood and reduce anxiety. Side effects can include nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth, weight gain and sexual dysfunction. Paroxetine is known for having a somewhat higher likelihood of withdrawal symptoms if discontinued abruptly, so it is important to taper off the medication under medical supervision. Mirtazapine is an atypical antidepressant often used to treat major depressive disorder. It works by increasing the release of noradrenaline and serotonin, but through different mechanisms than SSRIs or TCAs. Mirtazapine is also known for its sedative effects, making it particularly useful for patients with depression-related insomnia. Common side effects include increased appetite, weight gain, and drowsiness. Its unique side effect profile can make it a good option for patients who do not respond well to other antidepressants. #psychiatry #psychiatrist #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness
