I’ve bought properties where the pin is several lots away, or the next street over. They use those pins to calculate distance and angles to the exact location of multiple properties.

This is normal. They have to find the survey pens that were set in the ground. When the lots were split sometimes the pins are not even on your lot. They’re a lot a block away

When they did the neighbor who lives behind me survey they actually started in my yard. They proceeded to do the entire block to both roads. It then took a month to find the pins and lines

Looks like he is just looking for any pins as a starter point. He really should start about a block away and make his way to your pins.
