Why would I pay rent for a bedroom? When I could get my own apartment with my own kitchen, bedroom, living room, and bathroom

I'd make my kid pay rent but something small like 400 a month and then save it and give it to them when they move out.

If I’m going to pay rent why not to move out where you have your own space and privacy 🤷🏽♀️

My bf asked to stay with us when his parents caught Covid. My mom charged him her full rent, he paid it and groceries. We got an apartment the next month and she was MAD 😭

They want to take for granted your free labor and how much you contribute, then you have every right to leave. They will learn when they now have to do all that themselves

I wouldn’t mind helping them out with paying bills but if I’m still having to live with their rules no thank you I might as well move out and finally get the freedom I’ve been wanting

It’s because when you start paying rent you now have a say in how the house runs. You’re roommates Unfortunately in many households the parents won’t allow that so that’s why it’s better to move out.

Similar when I was that age. Some parents put too much on the oldest child, making us another parent. When I wanted to move, I got the guilt trip to stay home and help 😤

I pay rent to live at home. I can't afford to move out; my rent at home is significantly less than an average one-bedroom apartment. So, for some people, it works.

my parents never asked me to contribute when I was younger and living at home and I'd never charge my children. I had then, I will support them and they will always have a home.

he's part time, so no. But he should share if he's living there. If he's still living there when he's full time he should pay some form of rent to help with expenses.
