You have to be so good at a lot of diff skills in medsurg to survive. I’m happy at my peds clinic where the “hardest”nursing skill I do and mastered is peds IVs. Medsurg is for experienced nurses imo.

Depends. Maybe your assignment doesn’t need an Iv/foley/NG whatever, but someone on the unit likely does. Offer so that you can get that experience and build that skill.

100% would agree, I did a medsurg floor my first clinical and my top spot still is ICU, I’d rather have 2 or 1 patients keeping me busy than 4-6 where I have to remember who is for what

I have been in MS for 2 years now! Honestly.. I felt like it developed my critical thinking a lot, especially when I help with RRTs. A lot of the new grads come to me for questions..

Agreed went straight to the ED . I respect my med surg nurses for all they do but it’s tough work . I personally would have hated it if I listened to my nursing instructors .

It absolutely is. At the hospital I get care as a patient treats it like that. For example when ICU nurses get floated to another floor the max they will ever give them is 3 patients.

Once I worked on my dream unit, I realized that I wasn't ready and made the switch to medsurg. Yes is hard and tiring, but I am learning SOOOO much, which is amazing 👏🏻. My coworkers are great!!

I don’t mind my med surg floor. 1:4 ratios and hospital has IV team so never have to put in IVs. I won’t stay there forever but as a new grad it’s been a good learning experience.

kind of similar to dental, im a new grad RDA who started in Periodontics. Love it. You don’t need to start in general dentistry as a new grad RDA or hygienist. there’s so many opportunities.
