When you experience stress the body releases the hormone cortisol. Chronic stress and constantly elevated cortisol levels will begin to tell your body to start storing visceral fat. This fat is hard to lose and can cause some serious health problems because it is deposited around our organs (unlike subcutaneous fat which is stored under the skin. When you engage in strenuous exercise or you suddenly start to cut calories, this acts as an additional stress on the body, which floods our system with even more cortisol, making the problem of cortisol weight gain even worse. Instead, what you need to do, before you can focus on weigjtloss, is to focus on stress reduction.
