@90shomeschooler: Replying to @🪷 y parents are not terrible people, but the ecosystem they chose to raise us in cause a lot of damage to our family dynamic. I have a very low contact relationship with them, even though they started deconstructing from some of the things they used to believe when we were being homeschooled. There were many dynamics beyond their control that were traumatic, but there is still a lot of hurt. #exfundie #exfundamentalist #exfundies #fundiesnark #fundies #eldestdaughter #oldestdaughter #quiverfull #exhomeschooler #patriarchyproblems #exvangelical #homeschooltrauma #oldersister #oldestsibling #deconstruction

Thanks for sharing ❤️My fundie/quiverful parents homeschooled me with much the same 'style'. They never really learned, sadly. I'm low contact now.

My relationship with my parents is really similar to yours. We can have a great time together, but my mom especially likes to make little barbed comments. It's helped a lot to live further apart.

My parents were the same, they could never get out of the mindset that they were my authority. As a result we never developed an adult friendship relationship and I am sad about that.

My parents were sort of fundie light and homeschooled us. I started to deconstruct almost a decade ago and mom more recently. She has apologized and said she has guilt for some of the things we

My mom has asked when I changed my opinion on certain things & she was so confused when I explained my opinion had never matched hers, I just wasn’t allowed to voice dissent when I was younger.

My parents both had teenage sisters who got pregnant as teenagers. I think they turned to the church and hs as a way to prevent that for us.

My parents were involved in the homeschooling movement until I hit high school. I absolutely hated it and the books you mentioned make me physically ill to this day. I’m sorry you went through it

I am much older and not homeschooled, but so much of your experience reminds me of my own. I stepped away from parents from when I was about 18 to 35 years old. We reconnected and I am very thankful

I love how you acknowledge the good in your parents. So many people don’t. I don’t agree with some of my upbringing but I had genuinely good parents that did their best. I agree with you so much!

I’m a homeschooling dad of 8. I’m sad your experience was so traumatic & of course we fail. So far, my relationship with my kids seems really solid. I pray that continues. Time will tell.
