Because You Asked For It: Life After Top Surgery ⏱️✨ One of the most common questions I get after top surgery isn’t about scars — it’s about day-to-day life. So let’s walk through the big ones… because you asked for it. 🥗 When can I eat? Right after surgery, start light. A few crackers, something salty, and clear fluids like juice or water are perfect. Advance your diet slowly as you tolerate it. Most patients are back to a normal diet by the next morning. We want to avoid nausea or vomiting — not only is it miserable, but it can strain your incisions and even increase bleeding risk. 🚿 When can I shower? You may shower carefully after your drains are removed — typically about three days after surgery in my practice. Your incisions are protected with Steri-Strips, and waterproof dressings cover the nipple graft bolsters. Avoid letting the showerhead spray directly onto your chest. Let water run gently down with your back turned, because nipple grafts are very delicate early on. 🚗 When can I drive? Once you are no longer taking narcotic pain medication and you feel comfortable, alert, and fully safe behind the wheel. 🩸 When do the drains come out? In my practice, drains are usually removed around three days after surgery, as long as the output is appropriate. 🦺 When can I take the binder off? The postoperative compression binder comes off at about six days in my practice. Healing well is just as important as the surgery itself. Follow your instructions, protect your results, and give your body the time it needs — you’ll be glad you did. #TopSurgeryRecovery #FTM #FYP🏳️‍⚧️ #GenderAffirmingCare #DrTony
