@esthersifab: Recently, we visited the Africa Museum in Tervuren, near Brussels. We learned about Central Africa's cultures, rituals, and nature, and the abuses committed by Belgium during colonialism. The museum originated from the 1897 Brussels World's Fair. King Leopold II opened the "Colonial Section" as propaganda for his Congo project. By 1910, a larger museum was built, funded by violent rubber trade profits. Renamed multiple times, it became the Africa Museum after a 2018 renovation. The museum now rejects colonialism, acknowledging its past propaganda's impact on today's multicultural society. With 250 employees (80 scientists), it is one of Belgium's ten Federal Scientific Institutes (FSI). The museum's mission is to be a knowledge center on Africa, focusing on Central Africa, in historical, contemporary, and global contexts. It also serves as a memory of the colonial past and a platform for cultural exchange. We enjoyed lunch at Bistro Tembo, featuring Samosas, chicken, and ginger-hibiscus cocktails. 📍Africa Museum Leuvensesteenweg 13 Tervuren (Brussels) #brussels #tervuren #africamuseum #visitbrussels #brusselsmuseums #belgium #brussel #museumtok #belgie #bruxelles #belgique #afrikamuseum #visitbelgium #belgiumtravel #museum #whattodoinbrussels #fyp #pourtoi #whattodoinbelgium #history #burundi #rwanda #congo
