@floriangadsby: Here’s how I create one of my larger, lined vessels, pots that are designed to be either a vase for flowers, or simply a decorative piece, made with protrusion of stoneware that’s fettled into a point, as if a continuation of the rim. My glazes always break most dramatically around the sharp rim. The clay and glaze at this edge turn into an orange-red, that’s often metallic, a stark, and welcome contrast to the glassy green that otherwise covers the vase. The line will encourage the glaze to do the same thing, yet instead of it occurring on the top of the pot, it appears on the side, creating a line, a point of interest, as compared to what would otherwise be a very simple angular pot. As my packaging up comes to and end and I begin a new round of making, I want to throw more of these, some the same, others with different and new clay bodies, a few even left raw on the outside, black or white, with only a thin, liner glaze covering the interior form. #pottery #vase #studiopottery #satisfying #madeinlondon
