So I tired switching my 40 lbs soon to be 2 year old face forward.. she look extremely uncomfortable so I put it rear facing. But 3 I think she would want to forward bc she is bigger kid

Yes but they can still get hurt pretty bad rear facing aswell not everyone has a vehicle with seats like that aswell I have a small two seater bench seat and my child can do exactly what the second-

my daughter is 4.5 and only just gone front facing because she's too tall for rear now. better to keep them rear facing as long as you can, so much safer.
