@tenorkaufmann: Born in Turkey to a French father and a Greek mother in 1789, Andréa Chénier’s family moved to France when he was three. After a stint in the army, he turned to poetry, and eventually, as a constitutional monarchist, he wrote poetical satires in the 1790s. He was arrested in 1794, and after 140 days in prison, was convicted and guillotined only 2 days before Robespierre was removed from power. The opera “Andréa Chénier” romanticizes certain aspects of this poet’s life, but it is fascinating to play a real historical figure. Being a poet, I think he would have been happy to have known that his life’s story was turned into an opera…🙂 Tonight, we tell this story again with Giordano’s epic music conducted by Maestro Pappano, at the Royal Opera House. 🎥: Insights at the Royal Opera House #operasinger #frenchrevolution #opera #insights
