@famousgraveco: In Ho Oh was murdered on April 25, 1958. Oh, a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, walked to the corner to mail a letter to his parents in Korea. On the way back to his apartment, he was attacked by a gang of youths who were looking for money to attend a dance. They had been turned away earlier in the evening for not having the admission fee. Oh was beaten but managed to escape his attackers; however, one of the youths caught up to him and knocked him back down to the street. There, Oh died after he was punched and kicked mercilessly. He had 35 cents in his pocket. Because of the brutality of the crime, it soon became national news. Eleven youths between the ages of 15-20 would eventually be indicted for Oh's murder. Oh's parents, devout Christians, sent a letter from South Korea asking the court for leniency. They started a fund to pay for the "religious, educational, vocational, and social guidance of the boys" once they were released. They also released a statement, saying, "We thank God that He has given us a plan whereby our sorrow is being turned into a Christian purpose. It is our hope that we may somehow be instrumental to the salvation of the souls and in giving life to the human nature of the murderers." The first nine suspects went to trial in rapid succession. A witness named Walter Bradley testified that he heard Oh "crying out in a foreign language" as he was being kicked. Bradley also testified that he heard someone say, "Turn him over so I can go through his pockets." The individual trials of the first nine youths ended almost as soon as they began. Alfonso Borum was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death in the electric chair. Franklin Marshall was convicted of second-degree murder and given 10-20 years in prison. Leonard Johnson and Douglass Clark, who both pleaded guilty, received life in prison. Harold Johnson was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Robert Williams was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 5-18 years in prison. Percy Johnson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was given 5-15 years in prison. James Wright was convicted of second-degree murder, and a boy named Lonnie Collins was acquitted. In June 1960, the last two defendants, brothers Edward and Harry McCloud, went to trial. The prosecutor said that the McClouds did not participate in Oh's fatal beating but went through his pockets after he was knocked to the ground. A few weeks later, a jury of seven men and five women convicted the McClouds of second-degree murder, and recommended mercy. They were sentenced to 10 years’ probation with regular Sunday church attendance as a condition. Alfonso Borum, originally sentenced to die in the electric chair, was granted a new trial and received 10-20 years for second-degree murder. After Oh's death, Ki Hang Oh, founder of Philadelphia’s first Korean American Church, established the "In-Ho Oh Memorial Korea Center" which provided social, religious, educational, and charitable services until 2006. Mayor Richardson Dilworth, who served the city at the time Oh was murdered, established the "Mayor’s In-Ho Oh Memorial Scholarship" to provide a Korean University of Pennsylvania student full tuition. In 2016, a ceremony was held to dedicate the 3600 block of Hamilton Street, where Oh lived at the time of his death, as "In-Ho Oh Memorial Way." Oh was 26 years old. #grave #cemetery #mausoleum #graves #cemeteries #cemeterylovers #cemeterywandering #cemeterybeauty #cemetery_shots #cemetery_nation #cemeteryexplorer #cemeteryexplorers #famous #famouspeople #famousgraves #famousgrave #graveyard #gravephotographer #gravestone #gravestones #taphophile #taphophilia #celebritygraves #murder #murdervictim #murdervictims #murdervictimsawareness #unsolved #unsolvedcases #unsolvedcasefiles #unsolvedcrime #unsolvedcrimes #truecrimetiktok #truecrime #truecrimecommunity #truecrimetok

There is no animal on earth more cruel than a human being. We are the only beings that hurt other creatures for no reason. So upsetting!!

Even in their darkest times, his parents still showed kindness. Tears filled my eyes as I watched this. Sad for his parents but admirable of their courage.
