@beth_and_coop: Coop tends to do so well with his implants that I think it hits a little harder when he struggles. And the first night of soccer was definitely overwhelming for him. It was windy and raining, and that alone can make hearing with cochlear implants harder. Add in a coach talking, kids screaming, and him only wearing one implant…it was a lot. He did have an ASL interpreter there that he definitely leaned on, but I could tell he was being pulled between wanting to pay her close attention but also wanting to jump right into playing. He made it about 15 minutes before he said, “I do not want to play this game sport! This is too hard for me.” And that’s okay. He gave what he could, and we make adjustments as needed for next time.
