@paleopedia: Monotremes are a bizarre group of mammals that still lay eggs; an evolutionary relic in mammals’ history. Only four species of monotremes exist today: the platypus, and the echidnas. Might not seem like a lot? 6 various species seems like a good number! Though more I wonder what the highest number is….i bet it’s because of insects 🤣

I would not be surprised if those fossils are opalised as lightning ridge is a very large & famous opal mine. A pretty much complete opal plateosaur fossil was found there.
