My method to the student is “if it is really bothering you then came see me at lunch and we can discuss it” …. They never come 🤣😊

Why is it always something that happened at the bell, so they couldn’t get the yard duty teacher to help?

💯 we have clear guidelines of when to tell me (the teacher) these types of things during class breaks. No spending math time on this. Teachers can feel when it’s an emergency, and that’s different.

Curious to know if you would take this approach with a ND child? 🤔

I feel like it’s hard to know when to just brush it off and when to really sit down and talk through it and help with their emotions!

I agree, however many children do not have the skills or tools to self regulate. I work in a school with a large number of students who have a trauma background. It’s my responsibility to explicitly⬇️

How would you deal with this situation instead if the student is coming in grumpy?

Nah. Let them have a break. If they’re not in my class I win

we do a school wide meditation time for 5-10 minutes after lunch. gives me a chance to deal with those little breaks and get them back on task.

Being on Stage 3 now I tell them it’s okay to be upset but they’re now old enough to emotionally regulate and seek out strategies and work to minimise their triggers

I would say, let’s park it and talk it through at break. It doesn’t eat into lessons time and 90% come playtime say “doesn’t matter” and run out to play

I always say "if you need a break now, just know you'll still have to complete the work." Like during choice time, fun Friday, at recess, etc.

Alll my kids teachers dismiss anything my kids say. I get it… but they come home crying because they weren’t listened to 😭

A lot of kids need time to cool off and transition, I’m a big fan of a short meditation or similar for the whole class upon return

Say it again for the administrators who are having a private conversation in the back row. They need to hear this.

It’s at the high school level too. And I’m hearing from college professors that students still can’t cope independently at that level. 😭

I hate when kids come in and tell about an incident from the playground that needed to be dealt with then (injury) but never told the duty teacher
