My question is, why would you NOT want bloodwork 🙄

It is insane to think you can get any surgery without any pre-op work on any creature

Extra costs can suck. But it is the difference between life and death for your dog. Also 190$ is actually cheap considering how much bloodwork is for humans

I had pre-op blood work done and unfortunately my dog still woke up during her surgery. It was while she was getting fixed. It was very scary getting that phone call.

The cost but it’s better to be safe and I wish animal hospitals would include a pre-bloodwork with the price

We include it in any surgical estimate and it cut down on the confusion. We still recommend them coming in one to two weeks prior to the procedure.

I mean, my then 16 year old dog had growths removed. The vet assessed her and then did the surgery. It cost me $120 for everything and gave her an extra 2 years. I couldn’t have afforded it otherwise.

For our orthopedic or advanced surgeries we give no option to decline but for GP we give the option if the pet is younger than 7 past that its required

Required for all, no option to decline. Also has to be current on vaccines/heartworm testing barring extreme circumstances!

I will NEVER skip the pre-op blood work. IDC if it's $500. I want my literal family member to come home alive.

Pre-op be saves lives. I’ve literally had patients with non symptomatic abnormalities that could’ve resulted in them not waking up. It’s required for a reason

Even humans have to get blood work before surgery. Sounds like this person shouldn’t be owning a dog because they don’t own a brain.

As a tech I wish I could force these people to monitor their pet’s anesthesia. They’d change their tune real quick when they see how intensive it is.

My cat had a dental and in his pre op bloodwork we found he may have kidney disease and did further testing at his dental to confirm he was .01 into the stage 2 values. Worth every cent.
