Manny Jacinto, best known for The Good Place, says landing a role on the Disney+ series was enough to prove a point to his parents of Chinese and Filipino heritage. The Richmond, B.C., native said he once had to hide his art from them while getting a civil engineering degree that he didn’t really want. Jacinto was able to bring his beaming parents with him to walk the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of the show. Part of the reason he made the trek to L.A. was a lack of diverse opportunities for complex roles in Canada.
