@keithsmithconstruction: How is this possible? Keep reading 👇 This is called a Cantilever. There are is a certain length that you can extend your floor or deck joists over the outside girder (band). While it looks sketchy, it is actually very stable and meets code. All you have to do is look at the charts given in the code book to determine what cantilever is allowed in your situation or have it in the plans from your architect or engineer. This deck was inspected, passed, and the CO was given with this Cantilever. Now, why did we have to do this? Well, as you see in the video, the septic tank lines run right through the area we wanted to expand the deck. By, adding a 3 foot cantilever, we were able to expand the deck to what the homeowner wanted and leave the septic lines alone. This was a major win, and it turned out great! What are your thoughts?
