I've always have better luck pulling the engine and putting it on an engine stand the doing it in the truck I've never seen anyone able to keep it from not leaking again never had too redo one

make your life easy take your motor mount nuts off raise the engine and put a nut under each mount gives you ton of space to slide in and out

You do not have to remove the trans to do the upper oil pan.
