@out_inthefield: OITF founder Jim Denevan explores our riverside table set among the sun-dappled redwoods at Rich and Laura’s Everett Family Farm. Here in North Santa Cruz County, many years ago, we set our first outdoor communal tables. Apples, persimmons, cherries, lettuces, and strawberries are ingredients on the menus but also the visual backdrop of the Outstanding in the Field mission: to look deeper into where our food comes from, the hardworking people behind it, and a moveable feast bringing passionate chefs to the source. After the farm tour, we were seated amongst the rhythms and colors of nature. The feast kept coming, the river continued flowing past, small fish meandered in the shadows, and a charming family of ducks swam about, occasionally drawing attention from conversation and courses.
