Tomorrow I have our annual IHSS visit. Here's how I prepare: 1. I turn off the WiFi and put away Jude's iPad so they can see the level of supervision he requires when he isn't occupied by his preferred activities. 2. I keep a behavioral log and bring any doctor's notes, medication updates, or supporting documentation that reflects his current needs. 3. I am very descriptive when discussing his support needs and give specific examples of self injurious behaviors, elopement risk, sleep disturbances, toileting needs, and why he requires 24 hour supervision. I never assume others understand what our daily life looks like. Remember, don't minimize your child's needs. Progress does not equal independence.
