@sooziethefoodie: Yesterday we took a safari ride across Moorea island! Moorea is absolutely beautiful 🥹 I learned so much about The French Polynesia in the past two weeks I’ve been here but the most interesting thing to me is the giant fresh water eels! These eels live in canals and they grow huge because they have no natural predators there. One of the wildest things I’ve ever seen is when our guide called the eels to him by tapping a can of tuna 🤯 Even more interesting about the eels Huahine Island is the only place in the world where eels naturally have blue eyes, and this only happens in one canal on that island! Though the eels are really cool the locals consider them sacred and do not eat them! We also got to visit a local pineapple farm in Moorea! I thought it was really cool that on this island the fertilizer used for the pineapples is fermented kelp! Another little tid bit is that most of the chickens on the islands we visited were fed coconuts- I am so curious to see one day how that effects the flavor of the meat and the eggs! Our guide took us to a fruit stand that had the most delicious breadfruit chips (I will be making these when I get home) and of course I had to get a green coconut! Our last stop was a distillery and a factory where fresh Tahitian pineapple juice and alcohol was made! #mooreaisland #eels
