Cave Hira: The Beginning of Revelation Cave Hira (غار حراء) is a small cave located in the Jabal al-Nour (Mountain of Light), about 3 kilometers from Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It holds immense significance in Islam as the place where Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) received the first revelation from Allah through Angel Jibreel (Gabriel). Before Prophethood, the Prophet (ﷺ) would retreat to this cave for solitude and deep reflection. It was during one of these spiritual retreats, in the month of Ramadan, that Angel Jibreel appeared and commanded him to “Read” (اقْرَأْ). This marked the beginning of the revelation of the Quran and the final message to humanity. Today, thousands of Muslims visit Jabal al-Nour to reflect on this momentous event.
