The rules are very clear. Maritime aircraft have the right of way in every Szenario, both because they’re the larger vessels but also cuz they’re less maneuverable on water.

Pilot here, In terms of right away the FAR(pilots rule book) part 91.115 pretty much says the plane gives way to the boat on the planes right. Look up FAR 91.115 is you are curious.

I don't know the law/rules, but I would guess that the plane has the right of way, for visibility and manoeuvrability. Boat's in the wrong. My guess.

I have so many questions about this accident like how do you not notice that plane if safety on the water is being used on that boat

The fact the boater got hit and immediately went to the plane to help save them but I do feel like boat has more control of changing directions there ain’t no way they didn’t see the plane

I believe the vessel to the right (boat) has right of way because the plane was operating as a vessel at the time. However, I would have yielded way to the plane to avoid an accident.

I don’t care what the laws are for a “right of way” how can you not be looking for that long of a time to see a boat or a plane and continue course??

per 91.115 in the FAR/AIM states that it is up to the pilot to stay clear of traffic and to give way to anything to the right of it. however it gets more complicated than that. You have to follow

Don’t know if the plane wasn’t allowed there, but if it is allowed, there should be sings where you can start or land, and this schools be a restricted area for boats. Also everyone should know not

Boat at fault. I learned this maritime rule when I was a tot. I grew up on a lake that had a sea plane owner on it. That rule was hammered home to everyone who boated. Plane always ROW.

Motorised vehicles have to give way no matter what to sea planes as they have the greater mobility on water then the planes do. In terms of sea faring law the boat is in the wrong

When a seaplane is crossing paths with another vessel, the vessel to the right of the other has the right-of-way. In this case, the boat is to the right and, therefore, has the right of way.

putting aside who had the right of way, I want to know who should've seen the other craft and realized they needed to get out of the way?

man, that situation for right of way will be tough to figure out. from a boating perspective the boat should have tried to avoid (but depends how long plane was en route to land there

I don’t understand how these accidents happen ?? How the hell does the boat not get out of the way ?? Didn’t they see the plane coming ?? Also why didn’t the pilot throttle back when he saw the boat

I don’t know (or care) what the rules are. If I’m in a boat then I’m staying away from planes taking off or landing. I can definitely maneuver my boat better than a plane committed to takeoff/landing
