@bratbustersparenting: What's a good way to get my seven year old to talk to me about everything? Focus more on listening rather than talking. That is my number one tip for parenting teenagers, but it's a good one for all ages. Here’s the thing … listen to understand and show empathy. You don't listen to gather information to lecture with because they'll shut you out if you do that. Give them a lot of credit for what they're saying as well. Let them come up with their own solutions as you discuss problems together. You’re there to help, but don’t just take over, leave room for them to have their own ideas. That will make them more likely to open up and talk to you about everything, right through the teen years. P.S. If you’re wanting to get started with calm leadership parenting, check out my BratBusters Behaviour Board that I send to my parenting newsletter, linked in my bio. Then, if you’re looking for that next step in calm leadership parenting, check out the BratBusters Bootcamp, linked in my bio. ` ` ` #ParentingEncouragement #ParentingHelp #ParentingGuide #ParentingJourney

Valerie :
When they were real little and would say “can I ask/tell you something” I would always answer “you can ask/tell me anything anytime” so it was programmed in their minds they could come to me
