They're probably released more recently from places near where they're sighted. Most likely lost and trying to find their way home.

If they was breeding in the uk there would be more evidence I think like you said bones from pray, paw prints even nests of some sort? They wouldn’t breed if they wasn’t comfortable surely.

My dad had encountered a mountain lion while deer stalking once, he is one for joking around but i have never heard him scared like that before when he told me. Good to see some acknowledgment
