A subgroup of the large and diverse Manobo ethnic grouping, the Matigsalug is one of several indigenous ethnic groups residing in the province of Bukidnon, and Kitaotao is part of their traditional home range. It is said that about 60 percent of the population of the mountainous town are Matigsalug.
