A lot of “technicians” upsell hard start kits as “compressor savers”. Most don’t know any better or are just plain dishonest and looking for additional revenue!

I would say half or more hvac systems will have reasons for hard start. In the real world alot of systems are not maintained properly . Mostly because of technician laziness or not being trained

I blame the manufacturers for not having a manual or reasons to use it. some techs are greener than others and don't really know why, I know a company that checks inrush current to sell kick starts.
