Acne Skincare Routine like a Derm! AM: -Gentle cleanser OR Salicylic acid cleanser (i.e.Cerave SA cleanser) few times a week for gentle exfoliation as long as it’s not too drying -Azelaic acid is a great optional add-on. Helps with acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation. -Moisturizer: try a light moisturizer or water-like gel creams which are also very light. -Sunscreen: use a lightweight sunscreen & also try ones with niacinamide like Elta MD UV Clear PM -Double cleansing: helpful for tinted sunscreen, makeup, etc. Can use cleansing balm or cleansing oil first and then follow with gentle cleanser like gel cleanser or hydrating cream or milky cleanser. If cleansing oil or balms break you out, then consider micellar water. -Retinoid: Prescription or OTC option. Best OTC option is adapalene 0.1%. Retinoids can be very drying & irritating to the skin. Always start slow, 2 times per week at night and gradually increase as tolerated (i.e. every 3-4 weeks) -Moisturizer: if skin feels drier, opt for richer moisturizer. If skin is irritated, try using cicaplast balm or cicalfate. Cicalfate is richer rhan cicaplast and has postbiotic ingredients so I like to use it at nighttime to help soothe irritated skin.
