The only thing I do differently, I turn off the tank before the burners, this allows the gas in the lines to be burned off and less chance of gumming up, imo

cover the tray with foil and put some sand on it, it will catch what ever falls and it wont rust, this will double your BBQs lifespan (just remember to change the sand every now and then)

Shouldnt you turn of the gas before you turn off the burners so there isnt any unburnt gas left outside the tank
