@whatthepato: Everything my Japanese Host mom made me for dinner. This is my friend’s mom who’s known me ever since I was 7 and running around in the streets of Japan holding Yakitori sticks. Today she made me some home cooked classic Japanese food so I thought I’d share what I had ☺️ #japan #japanese #cooking #japanesefood #misosoup

My Japanese host mom made me things that 17 years later I still think about regularly and wish I had. The love and care that went into each meal was a totally new experience to me all together. It brings me so much joy to think back on.

The rolled carrot cut may be easy to do. But impressive to know to use!

My host mother was so kind! At dinner, she asked me what Americans ate for breakfast and made me an American breakfast so I’d be comfortable 😭

i think washing the beef also gets rid of any hémoglobine that gives the dish an iron taste too!

did the plant smell a little like ginger? it could’ve been myoga, a relative of ginger that’s popular in japan, the flower buds are typically eaten but the root is edible too, the leaves look like it
