as a former soldier i would say 1 year is not bad. i learned some useful things like sewing, washing my clothes, cleaning, self care etc. im so happy i left tho finally

Dutch millennial here, something similar was mentioned in Dutch politics years ago. I’m not against the idea. I think a mandatory service can help society and the younger adults.

military service isn't all bad. they will get education, a trade and paid. and I agree anyone healthy enough to enlist should enlist. serve your country and feel good about protecting your family.

I think national service is a great idea. You can work hard a year get a huge pay packet or just do it 1 weekend a month for free.

I’m not fully against it. But maybe as jobs and apprenticeships are so hard to get. Not to mention the pennies they pay. Tie it in better with this. So they leave with a trade

Military isn't so bad as it sounds although given the option I would have chosen the volunteering. My hubby is RAF and rent and council tax total cost is £400 for 3 bed in outer London.
