We really need to stop getting hung up on terms and definitions. Carl is in substance-specific recovery. He abstains from alcohol and cocaine but not all mind-altering substances. So no he’s not the AA definition of sober but that doesn’t really matter unless weed and shrooms are also ruining his life and making him act like an asshole in the same way alcohol and cocaine did. He’s still in recovery.
