It's kind of wild how many people I've met who suddenly felt incompatible with liking certain things once they reached teen age--especially very girly or feminine things.
It's kind of wild how many people I've met who suddenly felt incompatible with liking certain things once they reached teen age--especially very girly or feminine things. "You're not a kid anymore, why do you like that kiddie stuff?" The way that transitioning to adulthood is performed is by giving up pink, dolls, and toys and replacing them with more "sophisticated" hobbies and decor. Often though, we continue to enjoy older, girlish hobbies in secret. Society expects a total replacement of girly fun, but in my experience what really happens is a broadening of interests as teens are granted more freedom and exposure to the world. You don't stop enjoying certain things just because you're "too old." While you may be drawn or pushed into new avenues, often whatever spoke to you about your past hobbies has a way of sticking around intrinsically. Lots of people call it "childish," but in my opinion it's important to integrate all parts of yourself from all your years of life experience. Honor the things you loved as a child (in whatever fashion or degree suits you now) and the things you love as you get older too. Most of the people I know who like cartoons, games, and the color pink are very self actualized and confident in themselves. They're aware of the valences of presenting yourself in both socially "normal" and "abnormal" ways and have voluntarily chosen to be a little off the beaten path. I went through a phase where I refused to wear pink, dressed like an androgynous blob (think oversized tshirts and basketball shorts), and felt pretty lost about my place in the world. But now that I'm older, I've grown a LOT more confident and don't feel a need to hide myself. I can wear pink, cosplay sailor moon, and still be a person I'm proud of in myriad other ways 💕 #sailormoon #sailormooncosplay #pinkfashion
